Ukrainian lucky loser Vitaliy Sachko upset world number 13 Alexander Bublik 7-5 3-6 7-5 after 2 hours and nine minutes at the Moselle Open in Metz to achieve the biggest win of his career. Sachko reached his first ever quarter final.
Sachko saved three break points to hold serve after four deuces in the 11th game before breaking serve in the 11thgame to win the first set 7-5.
Sachko saved two break points to hold serve at deuce in the fourth game of the second set. Bublik broke serve at 30 in the 11th game and held at love in the 12th game to close out the second set 6-3.
Sachko did not face a break point in the third set and earned the decisive break in the 12th game. The Ukrainian player ended Bublik’s hopes of ending the year in the top 10.
Sachko improved his position in the ATP Ranking to world number 186 after becoming the first Ukrainian player to reach a tour-level quarter final since Sergiy Stakhovskiy in Marseille in 2019.
Matteo Berrettini beat Aleksandar Vukic 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 to advance to his fifth quarter final of the season on hard courts.
Berrettini earned an early break in the first game of the opening set. Vukic broke back in the fourth game to draw level to draw level to 2-2. Vukic saved three break points to hold serve for 4-3 in the seventh game. Berrettini earned the first mini-break to take a 3-2 lead. Vukic won three consecutive points to take a 5-3 lead. Berrettini reeled off four points in a row to seal the tie-break 7-5.
Both players held on serve in the first five games in the first five games. Berrettini saved a break point in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead. The Italian player earned a break in the eighth game and served out the second set 6-3 on his first match point in the ninth game.
French qualifier Clement Tabur saved a match point in the second set to beat Alexander Blockx 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (8-6).
Daniel Altmeier advanced when Hugo Gaston retired after losing the second set 6-0. Gaston had won the first se 6-4. Altmeier will take on Lorenzo Sonego in the quarter final.
French lucky loser Kyrian Jacquet cruised past Dan Added 6-0 6-2.
Berrettini set up a quarter final match against Learner Tien, who beat Tunisian lucky loser Moez Echarqui 7-6 (7-3) 6-3.
