Lorenzo Musetti beat Alexandre Muller 6-2 6-4 in 1 hour and 21 minutes to reach the semifinal at the ATP 250 in Athens.
Musetti fired nine aces and won 78% of his first serve points. The world number 9 player converted his second break point in the first game after Muller made a backhand error.
Musetti went up a double break at love in the third game to open up a 3-0 lead with a backhand. Muller pulled one of the two breaks back in the fourth game for 1-3. Musetti earned her third break in the seventh game with a backhand passing shot and served out with a hold at love in the eighth game.
Musetti started the second set with an early break with a backhand down the line on the break point. Muller saved a break point with a smash in the third game. Both players went on serve until the ninth game when Musetti missed out on two match points. The Olympic bronze medallist served out on his third match point in the 10th game.
Musetti will face US player Sebastian Korda, who beat Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3 6-2. Korda earned an early break in the second game and held serve in the third game to open up a 3-0 lead. The US player served out on his first set point in the ninth game.
Korda broke twice in the first and seventh games and sealed the win on his first match point in the eighth game.
