The already eliminated Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz battled past beat Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 13-11 in the final round match of the Peter Fleming Group at the Nitto ATP Finals at the Inalpi Arena in Turin.
Bolelli and Vavassori did not convert two break points at 2-1. Krawietz and Puetz went up a mini-break to take a 2-1 lead, but Vavassori and Bolelli pulled back on serve to draw level to 5-5. Krawietz an Puetz earned a second mini-break to win the tie-break 7-5.
Bolelli and Vavassori earned a break in the third game of the second set to take a 2-1 lead. Krawietz and Puetz saved a set point in the ninth game to hold serve for 4-5. Vavassori and Bolelli served out the second set 6-4 with a hold at 30.
Krawietz and Puetz saved a match point at 9-10 in the Match Tie-Break before sealing the win after 1 hour and 57 minutes. The German team went 1-2 this week.
Krawietz and Puetz ended the season with a 42-18 record. They won two titles in Shanghai and Halle. They won last year’s edition of the Nitto ATP Finals.
Bolelli and Vavassori already qualified for the semifinals after winning the first two matches.
Vavassori and Bolelli earned an early mini-break in the Match tie-break. Krawietz and Puetz pulled back on serve to draw level to 2-2. The German team clinched the match tie-break 13-11 after taking a second mini-break at 11-11.
Bolelli and Vavassori will joined in the semifinals by the winner of the doubles match between Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool and Marcel Granollers and Horaco Zeballos.
