Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara beat Simone Bolelli 6-4 6-3 after 1 hour and 16 minutes in the first semifinal of the Nitto ATP Finals at the Inalpi Arena in Turin to reach the final one year after losing in the semifinal in the 2024 edition.
Patten and Heliovaara earned the first break in the third game to take a 2-1 lead. They held their next service games and served out the first set with a hold at love in the 10thgame.
Patten and Heliovaara converted their third break point in the third game of the second set to take a 2-1 lead. Bolelli and Vavassori saved three break points in the fifth game to hold serve, but they did not convert a break point in the sixth game. Patten and Heliovaara sealed the win with a break on the second match points in the ninth game after 76 minutes.
Heliovaara and Patten won 87% on his first service points. They lead 3-1 in their head-to-head matches against Bolelli and Vavassori.
“Bolelli and Vavassori are two very good servers. We’ve struggled returning against them in the past. Sometimes you get a bit lucky as well. No secret, just lots of hard work and lots of repetitions, really.”, said Patten.
Patten continued the tradition of Great Britain in the doubles at this year’s edition of the Nitto ATP Finals.Patten and Heliovaara will face Year-End Doubles ATP Doubles number 1 Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool or Joe Salisbury or Neal Skupski.
