Seventh seed Cameron Norrie rallied past from one set down to beat Lorenzo Sonego 4-6 6-2 6-4 in exactly two hours reaching the final of the Moselle Open in Metz.
Sonego converted his second break point in the third game of the opening set and held serve at 30 to take a 3-1 lead. The Italian player served out the set at love in the 10thgame.
Norrie saved two break points in the third game of the second set. The British player broke twice in the fourth and eighth games to win the second set 6-2.
Norrie converted his sixth break point of the decider in the 10th game to seal the third set 6-4. The British player is aiming to win the sixth title in 16 finals in his career. He has not won a title since Rio de Janeiro 2023.
Norrie fought back from one set down for the third consecutive match in Metz this week.
“It’s always a battle when I play against Lorenzo, I have a lot of respect for him. He is so passionate about tennis and he showed that he came to fight and we both fought today and I was really happy with my level in the third set. I was playing free and had a lot of support from the crowd”, said Norrie.
Norrie set up a final against Learner Tien, who beat Vitaliy Sachko 6-1 6-4. Tien broke twice in the second and fourth games to win the first set 6-1. The 19-year-old US player earned the decisive break in the seventh game and served out the win on his second match point.
