Valentin Vacherot overcame Cameron Norrie 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 to reach the quarter final at the Paris Rolex Masters at the Defense Arena.
Vacherot beat his cousin Arthur Rindernech twice in the final of the Shanghai Rolex Masters to win his first Masters 1000 title and in the second round of 32 at this year’s edition of the Paris Masters 1000 tournament.
Norrie dropped just two points on serve in the first set but he was not able to convert his break point. The first set went on serve en route to the tie-break. Vacherot earned an early break point to open up a 5-3 lead. Norrie pulled back on serve to reduce the game to 4-5m. Vacherot won the final two points to close out the tie-break 7-4.
Vacherot saved two break points at 2-2 before breaking serve in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead. The Monegasque player saved two break points in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead before wrapping up the win on his second match point.
“It was a really big performance. I am happy with how I handled the hot moments. Everything is clicking now. It’s the work of many years, pure work”, said Vacherot in the post match interview.
