Karolina Muchova rallied from one set down to beat Marta Kostyuk 2-6 6-2 6-4 in the first round in a match that lasted just more than two hours and a half.
Kostyuk, who lost to Jessica Pegula in the Round of 16 in Beijing, saved two break points in the third game before earning two breaks of serve in the fourth and eighth games to close out the first set 6-2.
Kostyuk held serve in the first game of the second set, but Muchova earned two break points in the third and fifth games to race out to a 5-1 lead before serving out the second set 6-2 in the eighth game forcing the match to the decider.
Muchova broke serve in the first and seventh games to open up a 5-2 lead. Kostyuk pulled one break back in the eighth game and held serve in the ninth game to reduce the gap to 4-5. Muchova served out the win on her fourth match point in the 10th game.
Muchova will face either Veronika Kudemertova or Magdalena Frech.
It was the final tournament of the year for Kostyuk.
