Jack Draper will start the new season without the person who has overseen his rise on the Tour in recent years.
James Trotman has confirmed to BBC Sport that he is departing Draper’s team after reaching a mutual agreement so he can spend more time with his family. The announcement has been weeks in the making, with the 46-year-old first speaking about his future with the British No. 1 shortly after this year’s Wimbledon Championships. At the time, Trotman said he felt mentally and physically tired.
“I’ve made the decision that four years has been a great run,” Trotman told BBC Sport.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was getting increasingly difficult for me juggling the demands Jack deserves as the player that he is – and also being a father and a husband.
“I need to start to get those energy levels back up and have a little bit more normality – watch my son play football on a Sunday, go on some family holidays, have a bit more of a normal life.”
Trotman, who won two junior Grand Slam doubles titles during the 1990s, has been a key figure in Draper’s career since 2021. Under his guidance, he has won a trio of ATP Finals, including the Indian Wells Masters earlier this year. Draper has also been ranked as high as fourth in the world and has recorded eight wins over top 10 players so far on the Tour.
The announcement of Trotman’s departure comes shortly after Draper appointed Jamie Delgado as his head coach. Delgardo has worked with both Grigor Dimitrov and Andy Murray in the past.
“My relationship with Jack is strong. We are extremely close,” Trotman states.
“We spent more time with each other than anybody else on the planet over the past four years.
“We are going to stay incredibly close and obviously I’ll be following and supporting in any way I can from the sidelines.”
Draper is currently in training after ending his 2025 season due to a left arm injury. This year, he has achieved a win-loss record of 30-9, with two of those victories coming over top-10 players Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz.
Should all go to plan, Draper will return to action during the off-season after receiving a wildcard for the UTS Grand Final in London. The event will be held at the Copper Box from 5-7 December.
