Danil Medvedev beat Adam Walton 7-5 7-6 (7-0) to reach the quarter final at the Almaty Open ATP 250 tournament.
Medvedev avenged his defeat against Walton, who won their previous head-to-head matches.
The first set went on serve in the first ten games. Medvedev earned the first break in the 11th game to win the first set 7-5.
Walton broke serve in the fourth game of the second set and held serve at love to open up a 4-1 lead.
Medvedev saved four break points in the sixth game to hold serve at deuce for 2-4. The Russian player broke back in the seventh game and held serve at 15 in the eighth game to draw level to 4-4. Medvedev earned three mini-breaks to win the tie-break 7-0. Medvedev has drawn level to 1-1 in his head-to-head matches against Walton.
Medvedev has reached the semifinals in Beijing and Shanghai and has won eight of his past ten matches.
Medvedev will face Fabian Maroszan in the quarter final.
