Andrey Rublev beat Jacob Fearnley 6-1 6-4 in his opening match of the Paris Rolex Masters to claim his first match win since reaching the fourth round at the US Open.
Rublev broke four times to cruise to build up a 6-1 2-0 lead. Fearnley broke back in the third game to draw level to 2-2. Rublev missed out on three break points at 3-2, but he converted his next opportunity which doubled as match point in the 10th game.
Rublev converted five of his ten break points in the match.
Rublev will face Learner Tien, who beat Nuno Borges 6-2 7-6 (9-7).
“I had a very good opponent today. He can play very well, he’s won good matches this year. I was able to step up and play solid tennis. I’ve been struggling for a while with the wins. To win such a match like this on centre court, it’s a good feeling”, said Rublev in the post match interview.
