Amanda Anisimova beats Jasmine Paolini to set up China Open semifinal against Coco Gauff

Amanda Anisimova rallied from one set down to edge Jasmine Paolini 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-4 in 2 hours and 47 minutes setting up a semifinal showdown against her compatriot Coco Gauff. 

Anisimova booked her spot in the WTA Finals in Ryiadh. 

Both players held on serve in the first six games of the first set. Anisimova earned her first break in the seventh game. The 2025 Wimbledon and US Open finalist saved two break points to hold serve for 5-3 lead, but she was not able to close out the first set. Paolini held serve from 15-30 down in the ninth game before breaking serve at 30 in the 10th game to draw level to 5-5. Paolini  went down 0-30 in the 11th game and faced two break points but she saved them to hold serve at love. Paolini went up a 5-2 lead in the tie-break with three mini-breaks. Anisimova pulled one mini-break back for 3-5, but Paolini sealed the tie-break 7-4 with her fourth mini-break. 

Anisimova rallied from 0-40 down in the second game of the second set to break serve for 2-0. The US player went up a double break in the fourth game to race out to a 4-0 lead. Paolini pulled one break back in the fifth game. 

Anisimova saved a break point in the seventh game to hold serve at deuce for 5-2. She served out the second set 6-3 with a hold at 15.  

Anisimova went up an early break at love in the first game of the third set, but Paolini converted her second break-back point to draw level to 1-1. Paolini saved two break points in the seventh game to hold serve for 4-3. Anisimova was in trouble at 4-3 40-15 but she fended off six break points to tie the third set to 4-4 before claiming a crucial break in the ninth game. 

Anisimova served out the match at love in the 10th game. 

Anisimova and Paolini met for the second time in their careers four years after the US player beat her Italian player in straight sets on clay in Palermo.
