Taylor Fritz admitted he is ‘honoured’ to play under Andre Agassi as he stunned Carlos Alcaraz at the Laver Cup.
It was a dominant performance from the American as he thrashed the US Open champion 6-3 6-2 in what was a stunning day for Team World.
Team World won all four matches on day two to lead Team Europe 9-3 after day two with an intriguing final day awaiting.
After his victory over Alcaraz, Fritz admitted he is ‘honoured’ to play under team captain Andre Agassi’s guidance, “We’ve been talking all day. It’s been an honour to play under Andre,” Fritz told the ATP website.
“Both of us love to share our thoughts about the game. I knew what I had to do out here tonight. The question was if I was going to be able to do it. The three times I had played Carlos, he had broken me in the first game every time. Getting out of that first game was huge. I just made sure I didn’t second guess myself.”
The other wins on day two saw Alex De Minaur defeat Alexander Zverev 6-1 6-4 while Francisco Cerundolo overcame Holger Rune 6-3 7-6(5).
In the doubles Alex De Minaur and Alex Michelsen defeated Casper Ruud and Holger Rune 6-3 6-4 as Team World are just two wins away from regaining their Laver Cup crown.
