Alex De Minaur edged past Arthur Rinderknech 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-2) in 2 hours and 15 minutes to reach the quarter final at the China Open in Beijing.
De Minaur broke serve in the fourth game of the first set to take a 3-1 lead. The Australian player held on his next service games and sealed the opening set 6-3 on his set point. De Minaur won eight points more than Rinderknech and was solid on serve to drop just three points. Rinderknech lost 10 points on serve
Rinderknech earned his first break in the second game of the second set and consolidated it by holding serve at 15 to take a 3-0 lead. The Frenchman held on his next service games and closed out the second set with a hold at 30 without facing a break point.
The third set went on serve with no breaks of serve. Rinderknech was unable to convert any of his three break points in the fifth game of the decider.
Rinderknech saved three match points on his serve at 6-5 down in the tie-break of the third set. De Minaur earned three mini-breaks to win the tie-break 7-2.
De Minaur set up a quarter final match against Jakub Mensik, who edged past Frenchman Arthur Cazaux 6-3 4-6 6-3. Cazaux saved three break points in the sixth game, but De Minaur won the final three games to close out the first set 6-3. Cazaux broke twice in the fourth and eighth games to win the second set 6-4. Mensik earned an early break in the first game of the third set. Cazaux broke back in the fourth game to draw level to 2-2. Mensik earned his second break in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead and sealed the win on his third match point.
