Alejandro Tabilo and Alexander Bublik claimed titles this week to start the Asian swing as they won titles in Chengdu and Hangzhou respectively.
Starting with Tabilo, the Chilean claimed an emotional title in Chengdu as he stunned Lorenzo Musetti in the final with a 6-3 2-6 7-6(5) win.
The qualifier saved two championship points as he defeated the top seed to win his first ATP title of the season and the third of his career.
After the match Tabilo revealed his happiness at claiming the title, “I was so happy to make those first serves on match points,” Tabilo explained to the ATP website.
“I just had to stay there mentally and physically. It was an incredible effort from the team also. It has been a long two weeks and I am just so happy.”
As for Musetti, the Italian has now lost five consecutive finals and has plenty of thinking to do ahead of the rest of the season.
Meanwhile in Hangzhou, Alexander Bublik claimed his fourth title of the season after beating Valentin Royer 7-6(4) 7-6(4) in the final.
After winning the title, Bublik credited Royer’s play and revealed that stability has been the secret to his success this season, “He played unbelievable, and I wasn’t expecting that,” Bublik admitted to the ATP website.
“He was near this level during the tournament, and he exceeded it. He was playing well and I really had to serve and do my best in order to win. I served and hit some amazing shots throughout the match and I won by only a few points.
“Honestly I always say that wins don’t make me go through the roof and losses don’t put me to the ground. I try to stay stable. I enjoy what I do. I’m happy that I’m able to travel, play tournaments and stay healthy, and the wins are coming… That’s beautiful.”
The next tournaments in the Asian swing are the two ATP 500 events in Beijing and Tokyo before the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai.
