Andrey Rublev rallied from losing the first set to beat Coleman Wong 2-6 6-4 6-3 4-6 6-3 after a thrilling five-set match on Grandstand Court at the US Open.
Wong, the first player from Hing Kong to win a Grand Slam match, trains at Rafael Nadal Academy and advanced from the qualifying round to reach the main draw.
Wong broke twice in the sixth and eighth games to win the first set 6-2. Rublev earned a break in the seventh game and closed out the second set with a hold at 15 in the 10thgame. Rublev broke in the first and ninth games to seal the third set 6-3.
Wong converted his third break point in the first game of the fourth set. The Hong Kong player held on his next service games to close out the fourth set on his first set point.
Rublev converted his second break point in the sixth game and sealed the win on his first match point.
“He was playing with no fear, really aggressive. I didn’t start well and he was all over me. I had to fight for every ball to turn around the match”, said Rublev.
