Jannik Sinner kept his Wimbledon dream alive on Monday, but it was under very unfortunate circumstances.
The world No.1 looked to be on the verge of a shock exit from the Grand Slam after trailing by two sets against Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov. Then in the third set, the Bulgarian suffered a tragic injury in his pectoral region, which forced him to retire. Providing Sinner with a huge sigh of relief, who was also nursing an issue with his right elbow. Dimitrov has now retired injured from five Grand Slams in a row.
Elsewhere, Novak Djokovic was far from his best but still managed to get past Alex de Minaur in four sets. He will next play Flavio Cobelli, who is experiencing his best-ever run at a Grand Slam event.
Meanwhile, in the women’s draw, Mirra Andreeva stormed into the last eight with relative ease to book a showdown against Belinda Bencic.
