Hubert Hurkacz has withdrawn from next month’s US Open, which will be the second Grand Slam in a row he has missed.

The former world No.6 has been sidelined from the Tour since June after undergoing an arthroscopy on his right knee. The procedure is used to diagnose and treat problems with the joints. In Hurkacz’s case, an ‘overgrown synovial membrane’ was removed to help reduce the pain he felt in the area.

“Over the past few weeks, I’ve been dealing with knee issues, such as pain, fluid build-up and other problems that made it hard to train and compete,” the 28-year-old wrote in a post published on July 3rd. “After exploring different options, we decided that having an arthroscopy was the best solution.

“During the procedure, the overgrown synovial membrane causing the inflammation, pain and related issues were removed. A huge thank you to Dr. Bartlomiej Kacprzak who performed the surgery.”

This is not the first time Hurkacz has experienced a setback related to his knee. Last year at Wimbledon, he was forced to retire from his second round match after suffering a tear in his right meniscus.

Before his injury-related hiatus, the Pole had a win-loss record of 15-11 on the Tour this season. His best result was at the Geneva Open, where he reached the final before losing in three sets to Novak Djokovic, who won his 100th title at the event.

Replacing Hurkacz in the US Open main draw will be Denmark’s Elmer Moller, who is closing in on a top 100 debut and is currently ranked 107th in the world. He has won two titles on the Challenger Tour so far in 2025 but is yet to win a main draw match at a Grand Slam.

The US Open will get underway on August 24th.
