World number 361 Lois Boisson is into the semi-finals at Roland Garros after a 7-6(6) 6-3 win over Mirra Andreeva.
Boisson won the last six games to book her place in the last four at Roland Garros, the first Frenchwoman since 2011 to do so.
The world number 361 is also the lowest ranked semi-finalist for 40 years as she defeated last year’s semi-finalist.
After knocking out the third seed and sixth seed, it’s second seed Coco Gauff who awaits Boisson in the last four tomorrow.
It was an aggressive start from Andreeva who took the ball early and broke for an early 2-1 lead in a reassured performance.
The sixth seed had chances for a double break lead at 4-1 but Boisson fended off break point and broke in the next game.
However, Andreeva regained her focus and stuck to the game plan as she broke immediately back for a 4-3 lead.
It was an aggressive performance from Andreeva but one where she faltered in the big moments and ultimately paid the price for that.
After saving set point on her own serve, Boisson comfortably broke back for 5-5 and the latter stages of the opening set was a war.
Multiple break points were saved by both players with the first set going to a tiebreak.
The topspin forehand and the loopy backhand of Boisson did most of the damage as Andreeva crumbled under pressure.
An incredible opening set went Boisson’s way as she took the tiebreak 8-6 and control of this match.
A brutal 70 minute set took its toll on Boisson as Andreeva went 3-0 up with some clinical and efficient tennis.
However, Boisson managed to turn the match around incredibly as she extended the rallies with Andreeva failing to deal with the hostile crown.
The incredible turnaround was complete as Boisson won six games in a row to seal her first Grand Slam semi-final in what is her first Grand Slam appearance.
A year on from tearing her ACL, Boisson is now into a Roland Garros semi-final and making French tennis history.
Next up for Boisson it’s former finalist Coco Gauff, she couldn’t could she?
