Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz will begin his next Wimbledon campaign against Italy’s Fabio Fognini.
Alcaraz is aiming to win his third consecutive Wimbledon title, which is a milestone that has only been achieved by Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic since 2000. The Spaniard has already claimed a title on the grass this year at the HSBC Championships. At SW19 he has been drawn in the same section as Felix Auger-Aliassime, who could face him in the third round. Then in the last 16, possible opponents include Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev.
After losing a marathon French Open final that lasted almost five-and-a-half hours, world No.1 Jannik Sinner aims to get back to winning ways at Wimbledon where he has reached the quarter-finals or better in his three previous appearances. The Italian has only won one match on grass so far this year after suffering an early exit from Halle to Alexander Bublik.
Sinner is set for an all-Italian showdown in his first match against Luca Nardi in what will be their first Tour-level meeting. During the first week, he could play Denis Shapovalov in the third round followed by either Tommy Paul or Grigor Dimitrov.
Djokovic seeks to become only the second man in history to win an 8th Wimbledon title after Federer. The Serbian has played a staggering 112 matches at the Grand Slam, winning 97 of them. Impressively he has reached the last eight or better at the tournament in 14 out of his last 15 appearances. Djokovic plays Alexandre Muller in the first round, who he beat in straight sets at the US Open two years ago. 11th seed Alex de Minaur is also in his section and is a potential fourth round opponent.
Home hopes will be resting on Jack Draper, who is the highest-seeded British player in the draw since Andy Murray in 2017. The 23-year-old has reached various milestones this season, including winning his first Masters 1000 title and cracking the top 10. He is yet to win back-to-back matches at the tournament.
Draper, who plays Sebastian Baez in his opening match, faces a tough task to win Wimbledon with a series of dangerous rivals in his section. He could face Bublik in the third round, who beat him at the French Open. Djokovic is a potential quarter-final opponent followed by Sinner in the last four.
Among those seeking their first Grand Slam title is Alexander Zverev, who will open up against Arthur Rinderknech. The German has the advantage of having already played eight Tour-level matches on the grass, reaching the final in Stuttgart and the semi-finals in Halle. Meanwhile, Lorenzo Musetti will play Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round and Holger Rune faces Nicolas Jarry.
