Novak Djokovic had added a tournament to his schedule after accepting a wildcard to play in the Geneva Open later this month.

Organisers of the ATP 250 event confirmed on Friday that the 24-time Grand Slam will be playing for the second year in a row. Djokovic’s decision comes during what has been a lacklustre clay season so far, with the Serbian yet to win a match on the surface. He lost his opening match at the Monte Carlo Masters to Alejandro Tabilo. Then in Madrid, he was beaten by Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi. Both of those defeats were in straight sets.

Following those losses, Djokovic opted not to compete in this week’s Italian Masters, which he has won six times. Geneva will be the last chance he has of getting some wins under his belt before the French Open gets underway on May 25th.

Last year, the 37-year-old played in Geneva for the first time in his career. He scored wins over Yannick Hanfmann and Tallon Griekspoor before losing to Tomas Machac in the semi-finals.

Djokovic is chasing after his 100th Tour-level title, which is a milestone that has only been achieved by Roger Federer and Jimmy Connors in the Open Era of men’s tennis. He last won a title at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

As a result of Djokovic accepting a wildcard, there will be three top-10 players in this year’s draw. Taylor Fritz and Casper Ruud are scheduled to play. Meanwhile, Grigor Dimitrov, Machac, Alexi Popyrin, Hubert Hurkacz and Denis Shapovalov are also on the entry list.

The Geneva Open will start on May 17th.  Djokovic is yet to comment on playing in the tournament.
