Local star Alexander Zverev has accepted a wild-card into the Bitpanda Hamburg Open. The 28-year-old German player has a fond memory of the German ATP 500 tournament, as he won this tournament in 2023. He also finished runner-up in 2024. Zverev has a record of 24 wins to 9 defeats and won his first title of the year at the ATP 500 in Munich.
Zverev will start his campaign against a qualifier and is seeded to face sixth seed Felix Auger Aliassime in a potential quarter final. Zverev has been drawn in the same half as third seed Andrey Rublev, who won the Hamburg title in 2020. Rublev owns a record of 11 wins to 11 defeats this year and is aiming to bounce back from his first round defeat against Hungary’s Fabian Maroszan in Rome.
Rublev will play against Damir Dzumhur in the fisrt round before a potential second round match against the winner of the all-German clash between Justin Engel and Jan Lennard Struff. Rublev is projected for a potential quarter final clash against Brandon Nakashima.
Frances Tiafoe will take on China’s Buyunchaokete in the opening round and could face either Marcos Giron or Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round. Tiafoe is seeded to meet either Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or Gael Monfils in the quarter final. Davidovich Fokina leads 1-0 in his head-to-head series against Monfils. Davidovich Fokina reached two finals in Acapulco and Delray Beach and reached the semifinal in Monte-Carlo.
World number 18 Francisco Cerundolo will start his Hamburg campaign against Pedro Martinez before a potential second round against Jir Lehecka. Cerundolo reached the semifinal in Madrid and lost to Jannik Sinner in the Round of 16 in Rome. Cerundolo could face his compatriot Sebastian Baez in a potential quarter final. Baez will play against Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the first round.
Next Gen player Jakub Mensik is aiming to continue his good period of form in Hamburg, where he will make his debut. The 19-year-old Czech player beat Novak Djokovic in the Miami Masters 1000 final last March. Mensik has a 4-1 record against top 10 players this year.
Finland’s Herri Heliovaara and Great Britain’s Henry Patten will be aiming to win their first ATP 500-level doubles title. They won two Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon in 2024 and the Australian Open in 2025. They are currently second in the Live Doubles ATP Ranking.
