Luciano Darderi beats Vit Kopriva to reach the semifinal in Marrakech

Seventh seed Luciano Darderi beat Vit Kopriva 7-5 6-2 in 1 hour and 57 minutes to reach he fourth ATP Tour semifinal at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakesh. Darderi avenged his defeat against Kopriva, who beat his Italian opponent at the ATP Challenger in Neaples last week.

Darderi saved five of the six break points he faced and hit 5 aces in his ten service games. He converted 4 of his 14 break points. 

Darderi earned his first break in the fourth game of the first set to take a 3-1 lead, but Kopriva broke straight back in the fifth game. The Czech player held serve in the next game to draw level to 3-3. Both players went on serve until the 12th game when Darderi broke for the second time to win the first set 7-5. 

Darderi saved a break point in the first game of the second set. The Italian player converted his fifth break point in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. Kopriva fended off four break points in the sixth game. Darderi sealed the win with a break on his third match point. 

Darderi improved his record to 14-0 on clay against players outside the top 100. The Italian player set up a semifinal match against Roberto Carballes Baena, who beat Nuno Borges 6-4 6-4. 

Carballes Baena has reached his fourth semifinal in Marrakesh after winning this title in 2023 and reaching the final in 2024. 

Top seed Tallon Griekspoor beat Mattia Bellucci 6-3 6-4 to reach his first clay court semifinal and his ninth overall. Griekspoor has become the second Dutch player to reach the semifinal in Marrakesh after Sjeng Shalken. He is the first top seed to reach the semifinal in Marrakesh since Stan Wawrinka in 2013. 

Griekspoor earned his first break in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. Bellucci did not convert a break point in the 10th game before Griekspoor sealed the first set with an ace. 

Griekspoor broke serve in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead. The Dutch player served out the win on his first match point after saving a break-back point in the 10th game. 

Griekspoor will take on Polish qualifier Kamil Majchrzak, who beat third seed Alexander Muller 7-5 6-4 to reach his second ATP Tour semifinal after advancing to this stage in Pune in 2022.   

Majchrzak went up a break twice in the first set, but Muller pulled back on serve both times to draw level to 4-4. Majchrzak earned a third break in the 11th game to win the second set 7-5. The Polish player broke serve at love in the first game of the second set and held serve at 30 to open up a 2-0 lead. He saved five break points in the fourth game before serving out the win on his first match point.
