Jack Draper cruised past Marcos Giron 6-1 6-1 in just 61 minutes to reach the third round at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters. Draper equalled his best result at a clay-court Masters 1000 tournament.
Draper is looking to continue his great season after claiing his first Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells. The British player will face either Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
Draper hit 21 winners (including 5 aces) to Giron’s 9.
Draper saved two break points in the third game of the first set and reeled off five games with two breaks of serve to win the first set 6-1. The British player closed out the match with another five-game streak that included three breaks.
“It’s not easy conditions here sometimes and we were playing later in the day but I feel like I have been transitioning well to the clay. I have been working hard to look for my forehand and do all the things to be effective on this surface. Hopefully this year I can have a good run”, said Draper.
