Grigor Dimitrov beat Nicholas Jarry 6-3 6-4 to reach the second round at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.
Jarry converted his third break point in the first game of the opening set. Dimitrov broke straight back in the second game to draw level to 1-1.
Dimitrov converted his fourth break point after two deuces in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead and won his next two service games to close out the first set 6-3. The Bulgarian player went up a double break to race out to race out to a 3-0 lead. Jarry pulled one break back in the fourth game for 1-3.
Dimitrov closed out the second set 6-4 on his sixth match point after saving two break points.
Dimitrov will face Monegasque wild card Valentin Vacherot.
