Top seed Alexander Zverev cruised past Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2 6-2 in 69 minutes to reach the third round at the Madrid Mutua Open. Zverev earned the 147th Masters 1000 match win of his career. Zverevv will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round
Zverev has improved his winning streak to six consecutive matches. The German player won 81 first serve points and fired 32 winners to 24 unforced errors to extend his record in Madrid to 24-5.
Zverev earned an early break in the first game of the openin set and consolidated it by holding serve with a service winner in the second game.
Zverev went up a 3-0 lead with a double break in the third game. The two-time Madrid Open champion held serve in the fourth game with a forehand down the line winner. He earned two more break points in the fifth game with a backhand down the line winner. Bautista Agut fended them off with winners to hold serve and remained within one break deficit. Zverev held serve in the sixth game to hold serve and opened up a 4-2 lead. He earned more break point chances in the seventh game with a backhand crosscourt record.
Zverev converted his first break point in the seventh game to open up a 5-2 lead earning a chance to serve for the win, as Bautista Agut missed a drop-shot. Zverev earned two match points with an ace and closed the win with a forehand winner.
“It was a good match, I knew I had to focus against Roberto. I knew that it was going to be a tough challenge, and I’m very happy with the win”, said Zverev.
