Alejandro Davidovich Fokina cruised past Alexei Popyrin 6-3 6-2 to reach the third Masters 1000 semifinal of his career and his second in Monte-Carlo.
Davidovich Fokina, who lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Monte-Carlo final in 2022, clinched his 18th match win of his 2025 season. The Spaniard has matched the total number of wins he achieved last season, when he scored a record of 18 wins to 22 defeats. He reached two ATP Tour finals in Delray Beach and Acapulco. He beat Indian Wells champion Jack Draper in the Round of 16 earlier this week.
Popyrin fended off three break points in a marathon sixth game to draw level to 3-3, but Davidovich Fokina earned a break in the eighth game and served out the first set 6-3.
Davidovich Fokina extended his winning streak to seven consecutive games to race out to a 4-0 lead before sealing the win on his second match point, as Popyrin hi a backhand long.
Davidovich Fokina ended the match with 13 unforced errors compared to Popyrin’s 33.
“I’ve improved as a person, my maturity. When you can control [things] off the court, it’s going to be easier to control your emotions [on the court]. Today it has proved [the progress] I am making this year”, said Davidovich Fokina.
