Taylor Fritz beat Australia’s Adam Walton 6-3 7-5 after 1 hour and 34 minutes in the fourth round to reach the quarter final at the Miami Open.
Fritz drew Walton’s mistake in the second game of the opening set to earn two break points. The 2024 US Open finalist converted his first break point at 15 with a backhand down the line to open up a 2-0 lead.
Fritz consolidated the break with a hold in the third game and hit another backhand winner two games later to open up a 4-1 lead. Walton fended off two break points in the sixth game.
Fritz held at love in the seventh game with an unreturned serve for 5-2. The US player served for the first set at 5-3 and closed out the first set in 31 minutes with a service winner.
Walton fended off a break point in the first game of the second set. Fritz hit an ace in the second game and earned another break point at 1-1. Walton saved it with a forehand winner to hold serve for 2-1.
Walton earned a break point in the fourth game after Fritz made a double fault, but he missed a forehand.

Fritz faced two break points in the eighth game, but he saved them with winners to hold serve for 4-4. Fritz served to stay in the set at 4-5 and held with a service game. Walton squandered two game points at 5-5 before facing a break point. Fritz converted it with a backhand down the line winner to take a 6-5 lead earning a chance to serve for the match. Fritz hit another backhand down the line winner in the 12thgame to hold serve at love reaching the quarter finals.
