The Miami Open Draw Ceremony was held on Monday. Six-time Miami champion Novak Djokovic has been drawn in the bottom half and they could play in a potential semifinal showdown.
Djokovic will try to bounce back from his first-round match against Botic Van de Zandschulp in Indian Wells. He will return to Miami for the first time since 2019. The former world number 1 and 40-time Masters 1000 winner will start his come-back to Miami against either 2023 Next Gen Finals champion Hamad Medjedovic or Rinky Hijikata. Djokovic has a record of 44 wins to 7 defeats in Miami.
Djokovic could face 2023 Miami champion Danil Medvedev in the quarter finals. Medvedev will clash against either Jaume Munar or Arthur Rinderknecht.
Alcaraz will meet either David Goffin or Aleksandar Vukic in the second round before a potential clash against Brandon Nakashima. The 2024 Wimbledon and Roland Garros champion could face either Casper Ruud or Tommy Paul in the quarter finals.
Top seed Alexander Zverev reached the semifinals in Miami last year. This year he finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open, but he has not won consecutive matches since then. He lost to Francisco Comesana in Rio de Janeiro, Leaner Tien in Acapulco and and Tallon Griekspoor in Indian Wells. The German player will play against either Benjamin Bonzi or a qualifier in he second round before a potential third round clash against Giovanni Mpetchi Perricard and either Frances Tiafoe, Artur Fils or Tallon Griekspoor in the fourth round. Griekspoor upset Zverev in the Indian Wells second round en route to reaching the quarter final.
Last Sunday’s Indian Wells champion Jack Draper could face Zverev in the quarter finals. Draper will begin his bid for a back-to-back Masters 1000 title against either former world number 10 Roberto Bautista Agut or Next gen player Jakub Mensik in the second round.
Draper is on a collision course for a potential re-match of the Indian Wells finals in the fourth round.
Rune will face likely meet Reilly Opelka in the second round and Tomas Machac in the round of 32.
Last year’s US Open champion Taylor Fritz will play against either Lorenzo Sonego or Mariano Navone in the second round. Fritz could renew his rivalry against Denis Shapovalov, who beat the US player in Dallas last February. Fritz has been hampered by an abdominal injury.
Kei Nishikori will clash against his compatriot Yoshihito Nishioka. If Nishikori wins this Japanese clash he could face 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini for the first time in his career. This section also features Doha champion Andrey Rublev, Australian Open semifinal Ben Shelton and 2021 Miami champion Hubert Hurkacz.
The most interesting first round matches are Griekspoor vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry, Mensik vs Roberto Bautista Agut, Nishikori vs Nishioka, Joao Fonseca vs Learner Tien and Nuno Borges vs Zizou Bergs.
