Laslo Djere beats Sebastian Baez to win his third ATP Tour title

Serbia’s Laslo Djere beat Sebastian Baez 6-4 3-6 7-5 after 2 hours an 25 minutes in the final of the Movistar Chile Open in Santiago to claim the third ATP Tour title of his career and his first since 2020. 

Djere earned the first break in the first game. Baez broke back in the fourth game to draw level to 2-2. Djere broke for the second time in the ninth game to win the first set 6-4. Baez broke in the eighth game to win the second set 6-3. 

Both players traded for consecutive breaks from 3-2 in the third set. Djere was not able to serve out the match at 5-3. Baez held serve for 5-5 before Djere won eight of the final ten points breaking serve to love in the final game to seal the win. 

Djere won 70% of his first and saved six of the ten break points. 

Djere will return to the top 100 in the ATP Ranking, moving up 29 places to world number 74. The Serbian player is the first player outside the top 100 to win a title this year. Djere won his first match in his three head-to-head clashes against Baez. 

Djere tied Victor Troicki for third most tour level titles, trailing only Novak Djokovic (99) and Janko Tipsarevic (4).
