Holger Rune came back from one set down to beat Ugo Humbert 5-7 6-4 7-5 booking his spot in the Round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
Rune had never lost a set against Humbert in their previous head-to-head matches.
Rune struggled with at the start of the match but he was able to hold serve until the end of the first set. Rune missed his first two break points at 5-5. Humbert converted his seventh break point in total in the 12th game to win the first set 7-5.
Rune broke twice at love to race out to a 3-0 lead in the second set winning all ponts in Humbert’s service games. Humbert pulled one break back to reduce the deficit to 2-3. Both players held serve as Rune sealed the second set 6-4 to level the score to one set apiece.
Humbert broke serve in the second game of the third set to take a 2-0 lead. Rune broke straight back and held serve at 30 to draw level to 2-2. Rune broke Humbert’s serve in the 11th game and served the match on his first match point setting up a Round of 16 match against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
