Number 14 seed Grigor Dimitrov beat Brandon Nakashima 6-4 7-5 to reach the quarter finals at the Hard Rock Stadium at the Miami Open.
Dimitrov converted his second break point in the ninth game to take a 5-4 lead and served it out on his third set point. Nakashima saved two break points in the seventh game to hold serve at deuce. Dimitrov broke in the 11th game and sealed the win on his first match point.
Dimitrov finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner in the final at last year’s edition of the Miami Open. The Bulgarian player has reached the quarter final of a Masters 1000 tournament for the 13th consecutive season.
In the earlier rounds of this year’s tournament Dimitrov beat Italian Next Gen rising star Federico Cinà 6-1 6-4 and number 22 seed Karen Khachanov 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 7-5. Nakashima beat Roberto Carballes Baena 6-4 4-6 6-3 and David Goffin in the previous two rounds.
