Arthur Fils fought back from one set down to beat Lorenzo Musetti 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
Fils got through to the Round of 16 for the second straight time at a Masters 1000 after reaching at the Rolex Masters 1000 tournament.
Musetti went up a double break to race out to a 4-0 lead. Fils pulled one break back in the sixth game and held serve for 3-4, but Musetti earned his third break in the ninth game to win the first set 6-3.
Fils broke serve at love in the fifth game of the second set to take a 3-2 lead. Musetti converted his third break-back point in the eighth game to draw level to draw level to 4-4. The Italian player saved three break points to hold serve after five deuces for 5-4.
Fils saved a match point in the 12th game to force the second set to the tie-break. Fils earned a mini-break to take a 3-2 lead in the tie-break. Musetti pulled back on serve for 3-4. Fils won three of the next four points including a mini-break to win the tie-break 7-4. Fils won three consecutive games from 3-3 in the third set. The Frenchman converted the only break point of the third set in the ninth game to close out the third set 6-3 on his first matcy. The Frenchman claimed his 13thoverall win against top 20 opponents and his first such victory at Masters 1000 level.
