Miomir Kecmanovic and Hamad Medjedovic scored come-back wins to give Serbia a 2-0 win over Denmark in the Davis Cup qualifiers first round.
Kecmanovic opened the tie with a 3-6 6-2 6-1 win over Denmark’s Elmer Moeller in the first match. Moller converted his sixth break point in the eighth game to win the first set 6-3. Kecmanovic broke in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. Moller pulled back on serve in the fifth game for 2-3. Kecmanovic won the final three games with two breaks of serve to take a 6-2 lead. The Serbian player broke twice in the second and sixth games to win the third set 6-1.
Medjedovic came back from one set down to beat Holger Rune 2-6 6-3 6-1 in the second match. Medjedovic earned the highest-ranked win of his career. The 21-year-old Serbian player, who won the 2023 Next Gen Finals title, saved seven of the nine break points he faced.
Rune converted his fifth break point in the third game of the first set to take a 2-1 lead. The Danish player went up a double break at love to win the second set 6-2. Medjedovic broke serve in the fourth game to win the second set 6-3. Medjedovic broke three times to seal the third set 6-1 on his second match point.
Medjedovic, who started the 2025 season by winning the ATP Challenger Tour in Oeiras, achieved his second Davis Cup match win in as many appearances.
Argentina vs Norway 3-2
Argentina beat Norway 3-2 in a dramatic tie. Argentina’s Andrea Molteni and Horacio Zeballos began the day with a 6-2 7-5 win over Viktor Durasovic and Casper Ruud in the doubles match.
Ruud cruised past Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3 6-3. Then Mariano Navone came back from one set down to beat 18-year-old Wimbledon boys’ singles champion Nicola Budkov Kjaer 4-6 6-3 6-3. Navone went a break in the seventh game of the first set to take a 4-3 lead. Budkov Kjaer won three consecutive games with two breaks to win the first set 6-4. Navone broke twice in the seventh and ninth games to win the second set 6-3. Budkov Kjaer went up a 3-0 lead with a double break in the third set. Navone pulled both breaks back to draw level to 3-3. The Argentine player won three of the next four games with another break in the 10th game to close out the third set 6-3.
“I don’t know what to say. I am grateful for the team. I am enjoying the party. Argentinians are very passionate people. I have never had a feeling like today. This is the happiest day of my life”, said Navone.
Australia vs Sweden 2-0
Alex De Minaur and Alexandar Vukic earned straight-set wins to give Australia a 2-0 win over Sweden.
De Minaur beat Mikael Ymer 7-5 6-1 in the opening match.
De Minaur, who reached the quarter finals at the Australian Open this year, broke serve in the 11th game to win the first set 7-5. The Australian player converted his fourth break point in the third game and held serve at love to open up a 4-0 lead and broke for the third time on his second match point.
Australia moved into a 2-0 lead as debutant Alexander Vukic beat Leo Borg 6-4 6-4.
Vukic broke in the third game and held serve at deuce to take a 3-1 lead. Borg broke back in the sixth game to draw level to 3-3. Vukic earned a second break in the seventh game to win the first set 6-4. The Australian player broke in the ninth game and sealed the win on his second match point.
“Leo is a very good player. He made it very tough. It’s tough to play in front of the opponent’s home crowd”, said Vukic.
Czechia vs South Korea 2-0
Top 25 players Jiri Lehecka and Tomas Machac earned Czechia a 2-0 lead over South Korea. Lehecka beat Gerard Campana Lee 6-3 6-3 before Machac cruised past Soonwoo Kwon 6-2 6-2.
USA vs Chinese Taipei 2-0
The US team took a 2-0 lead after straight set wins by Marcos Giron and Alex Michelsen. Giron beat Tseng Chun Hsin 6-2 6-2. Alex Michelsen claimed a 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 win over Wu-Tung-lin. Michelsen has reached a career-high of world number 35 after reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open.
Croatia vs Slovakia 2-0 Croatia leads 2-0 over Slovakia after straight set wins by Duje Ajdukovic and Next Gen Dino Przimic. Ajddukovic beat Lukas Klein 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 before Przimic eased past Jozef Kovalik 6-2 6-2.
