Denmark’s Clara Tauson battled past number 14 seed Roland Garros finalist Karolina Muchova 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 in the second semifinal to set up a final against 17-year-old rising star Mirra Andreeva at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in Dubai.
Tauson earned an early break in the first game of the opening set. Muchova broke back to draw level to 4-4. Tauson went up a break again in the ninth game before serving to love to win the first set 6-4.
There was little to separate in the second set. Both players saved the break point they faced before Muchova won the final three points from 4-4 to win the clinch the tie-break 7-4.
Muchova earned the first break of the third set in the third game to take a 2-1 lead, but Tauson broke straight back to draw level to 2-2. The Danish player fended off three break points at 2-2 in the final set before winning the final three games to clinch the third set 6-3 on her second match point. Tauson has reach her first WTA 1000 final
“It was a great match. What can I say? Muchova is such a great player. I don’t know how I won today, but I tried to keep my cool and play some great tennis”, said Tauson.
Tauson has reached her second final of the season after winning the WTA 250 ASB Classic in Auckland, when Naomi Osaka withdrew from the match.
