Number 6 seed Elena Rybakina cruised past Australian 16-year-old Emerson Jones 6-1 6-1 in 53 minutes on Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne.
Rybakina fired 26 winners, including 11 aces, and converted five of her seven break points. The 2022 Wimbledon champion broke in the fourth and sixth games and saved three break points at 5-1 in the first set. The Kazakh player broke three times to close out the second set 6-1.
“I am very happy with the performance with the way I served today”, said Rybakina.
Rybakina set up a second round match against Iva Jovic, who cruised past Nuria Parizas Diaz 6-2 6-1.
Jones, current World junior World number 1 player, won her first career WTA Tour match beating top 40 Wang Xinyu in Adelaide. The home player is making her WTA Tour debut.
