Sloane Stephens had admitted that she doesn’t know how much longer she will play on the tour ahead of the 2025 season.
Next season will be Stephens’ 18th year on the tour and it’s safe to say that her career has been inconsistent to date.
The lows have been low but the highs have been incredibly high with the American winning a Grand Slam title at the US Open seven years ago and is a former world number three.
However the threat that Stephens used to carry on the tour as a dangerous player is slowly fading away with the American currently at 78 in the world.
Now at an exhibition event in Charlotte where Stephens played Madison Keys, the former US Open champion has given her biggest hint yet that her career is edging closer to the end, “The year was fun. I had there was a lot going on. Obviously life is life, but I think that obviously in tennis there’s a lot of ups and downs,” Stephens was quoted by Sportskeeda as saying.
“So I think it’s just kind of how you manage your year. And obviously for me, I realized that I’m like the oldest person here and very ancient, but I have enjoyed just traveling and being on tour and competing, and I think that’s the most important part for me.
“So obviously, to take that into 2025 will be important for just the longevity of my career. I don’t know how much longer I’m going to play, so just making sure that I enjoy it and having a good time.“
Sloane Stephens will begin her 2025 season in Auckland with the tournament starting on the 30th of December.
