Belinda Bencic has continued her climb up the rankings after reaching the final at the WTA 125 event in Angers, France.

The Swiss superstar returned to tennis in late October after spending her time over the last year with her daughter.

After competing at a couple of ITF events in Germany and Luxembourg, Bencic played the Billie Jean King Cup tie against Serbia, defeating Lola Radivojevic.

Now just last week Bencic returned to winning form by reaching the final at the WTA 125 event in Angers, France as she lost to Alycia Parks in the final.

As a result Bencic is now at 481 in the world and will look to make more progress when she competes in Limoges this week.

Although Bencic is a former top 15 player the 27 year-old has admitted she didn’t expect her comeback to be so successful at this stage, “It all happened faster than I could have expected,” Bencic was quoted by tennis 365 as saying.

“I didn’t set any dates or time limits at first, I really didn’t want to put any pressure on myself and I didn’t know what could happen. All I thought about was the birth of my daughter and how I would feel after everything. People kept asking me about my return, but I was never able to give them much information.”

Bencic will now face Selena Janicijevic in the opening round of the event in Limoges before potentially facing top seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round.

After this event Bencic will play at the Australian Open which starts on the 12th of January.
