Karen Khachanov cruised past Grigor Dimitrov 6-2 6-3 to reach the semifinal at the Paris Rolex Masters at the Acoorhotel Arena in Bercy. Khachanov stopped a four-match losing streak against Dimitrov.
Dimitrov needed a win over Khachanov and then reach the final to overtake eighth placed Alex De Minaur in the ATP Race to Turin.
Khachanov has clinched his 12th win in his past 13 matches. The Russian is this year’s leading indoor match wins leaders.
Dimitrov won just 48% of his first serve points and six of his 26 second-serve points.
Khachanov did not face a break point and won just 12 unforced errors to Dimitrov’s 28.
Khachanov raced out to a 4-0 lead with two consecutive break. The 2018 Paris Bercy champion served it out on his first set point. Khachanov broke at 15 in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead. He earned another break on his third match point in the ninth game.
Khachanov set up a semifinal against Frenchman Ugo Humbert, who beat Australia’s Jordan Thompson 6-2 7-6 (7-4) to reach his first Masters 1000 semifinal.
Humbert backed up his his upset win over four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz by beating Thompson in 1 hour and 38 minutes.
Humbert broke serve in the fourth game to take a 4-1 lead. He sealed the first set 6-2 with another break on his second set point.
Humbert wasted two match points on Thompson’s serve at 5-4 before losing his serve in the following game. The French player broke straight back to force the match to tie-break and clinched the win on his third match point.
Humbert has won his past 12 matches on French Indoor courts. He won two titles in his country in Metz in 2023 and in Marseille in 2024,
