Zheng Qinwen rallies from one set down to beat Amanda Anisimova in Beijing

Olympic champion and Australian Open finalist Zheng Qinwen came back from one set down to beat Amanda Anisimova 3-6 6-1 6-2 after 2 hours and 12 minutes  in a re-match of the US Open first round reaching the quarter final at the WTA 1000 in Beijing for the first time in her career. Zheng rallied from one set down against Anisimova for the second time this year after beating her US rival 4-6 6-4 6-2 in the first round at the US Open. 

Zheng hit 34 winners to 20 unforced errors. The Chinese player improved her 2024 three-set record to 16-3.

Anisimova broke serve with a backhand return winner down the line to take a 5-3 lead. The US player earned three set points, as she was serving for a one-set lead. Zheng fended off saved three set points but Anisimova earned her fourth chance and hit an angled forehand drop shot to close after 48 minutes. 

Zheng held a tough first service game before breaking serve with a series of heavy returns to take a 2-0 lead at the start of the second set. The Chinese player held serve to open up a 3-0 lead. She earned her second straight break to open up a 4-0 lead when Anisimova made her third double fault. Zheng drew 15 unforced errors from Anisimova to seal the second set in 30 minutes. 

Zheng earned an early break at the start of the third set. She broke again to open up a 4-1 lead, when Anisimova sailed a volley long after leading 40-15. Zheng wrapped up the win on her fourth match point after saving three break points. Four of the eight games in the third set went to deuce, but three of them were won by Zheng. 

Zheng improved to 38-14 this season. 

Zheng got through to her eighth quarter final of the season. She set up a match against 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva, who reached the semifinals at Roland Garros last May.
