Number 6 seed and Olympic bronze medallist Lorenzo Musetti beat Zizou Bergs 7-5 4-6 6-3 boosting his hopes to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin. Just eight points were won on return in the first ten games. Bergs went down 15-40 on serve in the 10th game but he held his serve. Musetti broke serve on his second set point in the 12th game to win the first set 7-5 in 45 minutes.
Musetti did not convert three break points in the second game of the second set. Bergs earned two break points in the seventh games. The Belgian player converted his second opportunity to take a 4-3 lead and held serve at 30 to open up a 5-3 lead. He converted the second of his three set points in the 10th game to close out the second set 6-4 after 40 minutes.
Musetti saved two break points in the first game of the third set before breaking at 30 in the second game. He held serve at 15 to open up a 3-0 lead.
Musetti held his serve in the fifth game at deuce and in the seventh game at love to open up a 5-2 lead. The Italian player served out the win at deuce on his second match point.
Andrey Rublev beat Pablo Carreno Busta 6-0 4-6 6-4 to improve to 5-0 in first round matches in Beijing. Rublev will rise to fifth if he can win his third title of the season in the China Open. Rublev broke three times to take a bagel win in the first set. Carreno Busta broke serve in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead. Rublev broke straight back to draw level to 4-4. Carreno Busta earned a second break in the ninth game and served out at love to win the second set 6-4. Rublev closed out the match with a break in the 10th game of the third set
