Two-time Grand Slam champion Jannik Sinner will start his title defence against Chile’s Nicholas Jarry at the China Open in Beijing.
Sinner has a negative head-to-head record against Jarry. The Chilean player beat his Italian opponent 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 in the Round of 32 at s’Hertogenbosch in 2019. They have not faced each other since then.
Sinner will play for the first time since he won his second US Open in the final against Taylor Fritz. The world number 1 beat Danil Medvedev in the championships match against Danil Medvedev.
The Italian player holds a win-loss record of 55-5 this season. He won six titles at the Australian Open, Rotterdam, Miami, Halle, Cincinnati and at the US Open.
Sinner could face three-time Grand Slam champion and world number 3 Stan Wawrinka or Jann Lennard Struff in the second round and Grigor Dimitrov or Jiri Lehecka in the quarter final.
Sinner could meet either seed number 4 Andrey Rublev or Chengdu Open finalist Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinal. Rublev wil start his campaign against Paablo Carreno Busta. Musetti will play a first round against a qualifier.
The world number 1 could potentially face a potential blockbuster match against Carlos Alcaraz or Danil Medvedev in the final.
Alcaraz and Medvedev were drawn in the bottom half of the draw.
Alcaraz will open his campaign against Giovanni Mpetschi Perricard in the first round and Miomir Keczmanovic or Tallon Griekspoor in the second round and Karen Khachanov in the quarter final. Alcaraz lost to Sinner 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 in last year’s edition of the China Open in Beijing.
Medvedev will face Gael Monfils in the first round and Alexander Bublik in the quarter final. Medvedev and Monfils have drawn 2-2 in their four head-to-head matches.
