After being inspired by legends, Carlos Alcaraz is aiming to kick off his Laver Cup campaign in style in Berlin.
On Friday, Carlos Alcaraz will aim to lead Team Europe’s charge as he and Alexander Zverev take on Team World’s Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton.
Before his Laver Cup bow in Berlin, Alcaraz has had the opportunity to spend time with the likes of Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe as well as Rod Laver himself.
Speaking ahead of the event, Alcaraz said it was a ‘privilege’ to spend time with such legends as he gets set for the doubles opener, “For me it’s a privilege to be surrounded by Bjorn, by McEnroe, Rod Laver, the legends from our sport who [reached] the top of the sport,” Alcaraz told the ATP website.
“So for me, to just try to learn from them so closely, and obviously here in the Laver Cup, I think it’s a really beautiful tournament that I’m going to try to enjoy as much as I can.
“With my partners, we used to fight against each other during the whole tournament. Now in this tournament we’re going to cheer on each other. It’s going to be a beautiful thing that I’m going to try to enjoy, but I’m going to try to learn from them as well as much as can.”
So far Team Europe and Team World are tied at 1-1 after singles wins for Francisco Cerundolo and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Before the doubles Team Europe’s Grigor Dimitrov will take on Team World’s Alejandro Tabilo before the blockbuster doubles match.
Team Europe is aiming to win the title for the first time in a couple of years after Team World won it on the last two occasions.
