Carlos Alcaraz has achieved a historic feat in Beijing after the Spaniard demolished Tallon Griekspoor 6-1 6-2.
The Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion secured a dominant 59 minute thrashing against the Dutchman to secure his place in the quarter-finals.
More importantly than that, Alcaraz notched up his 200th win of his career and ranks amongst the greatest world number one’s in history.
Having only lost 52 times in this period Alcaraz has a 79% win percentage and is the second quickest to achieve the 200 win feat among the players that have been world number one.
The only player that was quicker to achieve the feat was John McEnroe, who spent 170 weeks as world number one.
Speaking after the match Alcaraz spoke about the achievement and was pleased to have passed Rafael Nadal in the list, “It’s pretty good, obviously I was looking forward to playing as much matches as I can during the year,” Alcaraz was quoted by tennisnow as saying.
“I’m too young I guess so I’m looking forward to keep playing matches to keep doing what I’m doing. I’m really happy about it. Two hundred wins is a great number. I’m not really looking for the third hundred I just want to keep doing, keep rolling…I’m glad I passed Rafa.”
It was also his 45th win this season which has seen him win three titles in another incredible season.
Now Alcaraz will aim for title number four in China and takes on Karen Khachanov for a place in the semi-finals with Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner also still left in the tournament.
