Milos Raonic faces a nervous wait to see if he will play the US Open after withdrawing from the Masters 1000 event in Montreal.
The former Wimbledon finalist was due to play Holger Rune but just before walking onto court, the Canadian was forced to withdraw from the event in his home country.
Another injury hampered Raonic’s scheduled appearance in Canada as he was looking forward to preparing for the US Open.
Speaking about the injury Raonic cited playing the Olympics on clay as one of the reasons for picking up the injury, “It was a pretty shitty feeling, but I tried to warm up for my match today. The thing that was the most difficult was to serve. Yeah, I don’t think I would have been able to be competitive by any means,” Raonic was quoted by tennis infinity as saying.
“I can manage a lot of things, but without serving, that would be a tough day for me. So just had pain down my shoulder and got to see where it’s at. Yeah, it came up initially right when I came here on hard courts after the clay. I was playing points the other days, and I was kind of having similar feeling.
“Took some days off trying to kind of feel better about it. It just wasn’t anywhere close to where I need it to be.”
Now Raonic faces a nervous wait to see how bad the injury is as he will face a race against time to compete at the US Open.
The Canadian said that an MRI test will dictate how bad the injury is and what the next steps are, “Yeah, they say I need more tests,” Raonic explained.
“That’s the thing. We were checking a few things. So they were saying I just need to kind of have a chance to do an MRI, which wasn’t possible to this point.”
The US Open starts on the 26th of August.
