Andy Murray’s career is over as he and Dan Evans lost to Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals at the Olympics.

The Americans were too strong for Evans and Murray as they ran away 6-2 6-4 winners.

However they were not the main story in this match as this was the final match of Andy Murray’s illustrious career that included three Grand Slams, two Olympic Gold medals, a world number one ranking and a Davis Cup title.

In terms of the match the Brits lacked energy in the first set as their last two matches got the best of them.

Having saved seven match points in the last two rounds, it was always going to be a tough ask for them to beat two quality players like Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.

The Americans did their job professionally and to the highest standard as they convincingly won the opening set.

In the second set Fritz and Paul were dominant to start off with as they raced to a 4-1 lead.

However Andy Murray was never going to give up with a fight as they broke twice and pushed Fritz and Paul all the way in the second set.

Fritz’s quality was too strong though as the American duo sealed their place in the semi-finals against Matthew Ebden and John Peers.

Today though was all about Murray as there were emotional scenes as the British sporting legend now moves onto the next phase of his career.
