Danil Medvedev battled past Dominik Koepfer 6-3 6-4 5-7 6-3 to reach the second round at Roland Garros.
Medvedev has extended his head-to-head record against Koepfer to 4-0 and has won 11 of the 13 sets they played.
Medvedev set up a second round match against Miomir Kecmnanovic, who beat Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro 6-2 6-1 4-6 7-5.
Medvedev converted his third break point in the second game and held serve at 15 to open up a 3-0 lead. Koepfer broke back in the fifth game at love for 2-3. Medvedev broke for the second time in the sixth time to 15 to open up a 4-2 lead and held his next two service games to win the first set 6-3.
Medvedev won the second set 6-4 with only break and held his next service games.
Medvedev went up two sets and a break in the first game of the third set. Koepfer broke back in the sixth game to draw level to 3-3. Koepfer won the final three games from 4-5 down and sealed the third set 7-5 with a break in the 12th game.

Gael Monfils beat Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-2 3-6 6-3 6-4 to reach the second round at Roland Garros for the 15th time in his career.
Lorenzo Musetti beat Daniel Elahi Galan 6-3 6-3 7-5. Musetti broke in the fourth game to win the first set 6-3. The Italian earned two breaks in in the seventh and ninth games to win the second set 6-3. Musetti went up a break in the second game to open up a 3-0 lead. Galan broke back in the fifth game to draw level to 3-3. Musetti sealed the win with a break in the 12th game.
“Today he served pretty good. I was returning pretty well today and had really feelings on the return. I wasted a little bit of my advantage position in the third set when I had the ball for 4-love and double break”, said Musetti.
