World number three Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from Rome due to an arm injury, putting him as a doubt for Roland Garros.
The Spaniard had played Madrid in order to test out the injury that he suffered before Monte-Carlo.
Despite reaching the quarter-finals, it was obvious Alcaraz was struggling with the injury still.
After seeing a doctor Alcaraz confirmed on social media that he will have to miss Rome due to an arm injury, “I felt some pain after playing in Madrid, some discomfort in my arm,” the Spaniard said on X (Twitter).
“Today I did some tests and I have a muscle edema in my pronator teres, a consequence of my recent injury. Unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome. I need to rest so I can recover and play 100% pain free. I am very sorry, I will see you next year.”
Alcaraz now faces a race against time to be fit for Roland Garros which starts on the 26th of May.
