Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from his first clay court tournament of the season after suffering an arm injury.
The Spaniard had the momentum on his side having won the Indian Wells title and produced a deep run in Miami.
However Alcaraz has received a setback to his progress as he has suffered an arm injury during practice.
As a result, Alcaraz has withdrawn from Monte-Carlo as he revealed the news on social media, “I have been working in Monte-Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play!” Alcaraz stated.
“I was really looking forward to playing… See you next year! @ROLEXMCMASTERS @atptour.”
Alcaraz recently lost his world number two ranking and faces a race against time to be fit for his title defences in Barcelona and Madrid.
The tournament in Barcelona will take place next week as the Spaniard looks to build form and confidence heading into the second Grand Slam of the season at Roland Garros.
