Iga Swiatek beat Marta Kostyuk 6-2 6-1 to cruise into her second Indian Wells final.
Swiatek did not face a break point in the match and dropped just ten points on serve. She converted five of her six break points and hit 14 winners to 6 unforced errors. Kostyuk hit 23 unforced errors to 17 winners.
Swiatek broke in the third game to take a 2-1 lead. She broke for the second time two games later when Kostyuk made a double fault to open up a 4-1 lead. The Polish player held on her next two service games to win the first set 6-2 after 31 minutes.
Swiatek earned an early break in the first game of the second set with a powerful smash. Kostyuk made 15 unforced errors in the opening set and received a medical time-out due to a left foot problem after dropping her serve for the fourth time in the match in the third game of the second set. Swiatek sealed the win with another break on her first match point with a forehand winner reaching the final without dropping a set.
Swiatek won her 19th match on the WTA Tour this year breaking her tie for the tour lead with Emma Navarro.
Swiatek will face either Coco Gauff or Maria Sakkari in the final. The world number 1 is aiming to win her WTA 1000 title following Rome in 2022 and Doha 2024.
Kostyuk will reach a career-high ranking of number 25 on Monday.
“For sure I am happy with the performance. I think it was the cleanest match I played here. It’s already a great tournament. I have no preference in reference to my potential rival in the final. It would be stupid for me to say anything. Both of them are really great and experienced so they are going to be fighting today, no matter who is going to be there. It’s going to be tough anyway”, said Swiatek.
