Top seeds Hsieh Su-Wei and Elise Mertens claimed their second BNP Paribas Open after beating Storm Hunter and Keterina Siniakova 6-3 6-4 in the women’s doubles final.

Hsieh won the 34th title of her career. Mertens claimed 20th doubles trophy.

Both teams traded breaks at the start of the match and held their service games until Hsieh and Mertens broke Siniakova at love with a backhand winner up the line to take a 5-3 lead and served out the first set 7-5 at love.

Both players went on serve with no breaks of serve until 4-4- Hsieh fired a backhand winner to earn two break points. She converted  her first chance and sealed the win on the first match point after 70 minutes.

Hsieh and Mertens won the Indian Wells doubles title in Indian Wells in 2021. Mertens lited the Indian Wells doubles title with Aryna Sabalenka in 2019.

Hsieh and Mertens beat Demi Schuurs and Luisa Stefani, Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez earlier this week.

Hsieh and Mertens beat Hunter and Siniakova 7-5 1-6 6-3 in the Australian Open semifinal last January en route to the title.

“It was a little bit special this year because I didn’t play this tournament for a while, and I was sick after Qatar, so I have not practiced a lot. I could not do any exercise because the doctor suggest to me do not do any sport”, said Hsieh.

“I am very happy about our game today. I think a lot of things worked today. We were from the beginning. We only lost our serve once. It was actually my serve”, said Mertens.
